What is a checkout?

In double-out x01, a checkout finishes the remaining score exactly, with the last dart in a double or the bull. T20 D10 means treble 20 followed by double 10: an 80 finish. These routes assume up to three darts in hand and double-out rules.

Read the notation

S means single, D means double and T means treble. Bull means the inner bull worth 50; the outer bull is worth 25. A slash separates alternative routes. More than one finish can be correct: choose a route that suits your reliable doubles.

The complete 2–170 table

Start with common finishes and use the table as a reference. A route is only useful if you can adapt it after a miss. With one or two darts left, check that the route still fits the darts in your hand.

Recognise the bogey numbers

169, 168, 166, 165, 163, 162 and 159 cannot be finished in three darts under double-out rules. They are not impossible remaining scores: use a setup visit to leave a finish. The highest possible three-dart checkout is 170: T20 T20 Bull.

Plan the next dart too

For 64, T16 D8 is one option; a single 16 leaves 48, which you can finish with S16 D16. For 80, T20 D10 becomes 60 after a single 20, leaving S20 D20. Practise the recovery as well as the ideal route.

Make finishing a repeatable drill

Start with 32, 40, 48 and 60. Give yourself three darts for each attempt and record finishes, then move to 64, 76, 80 and 81. Use 121 Checkout for structured practice and the practice plan for a session that also covers scoring and pressure.
